Diese erlassen Satzungen (Promotionsordnungen), die spezifische Bedingungen regeln, nach denen der Kandidat oder die Kandidatin promoviert wird.

In Germany, the right to award a doctorate to a doctoral candiate is the exclusive responsibility of the faculties of a university. They issue statutes (doctoral regulations) which regulate the specific conditions under which the candidate is awarded a doctorate. The Graduate Centres of the faculty give support to the candidates, the "Promotionsbüros" are responsable for the formal aspects of a doctorate.?
