Description
Pd is part of the Research Unit “Emerging Grammars in Language Contact Situations: A Comparative Approach” (FOR 2537). Pd is the key project providing the unified environment that is necessary for the development of a joint empirical basis in RUEG: a cross-linguistic corpus of comparative data based on a common methodology. We will support all other projects methodologically and corpus-linguistically in domains of data collection, corpus building, retrieval, and architecture. To allow for the broad comparability that RUEG requires, it is crucial that: parallel stimuli are used in different languages and with different participant groups; elicitation circumstances are tightly controlled; transcriptions and annotations follow the same, explicit and detailed guidelines; and all subcorpora are stored in a powerful multi-layer corpus architecture in transparent, well-described, and standardised formats. Pd will ensure this, closely working together with all projects to coordinate, guide, and support, at different levels, the compilation, processing, and integration of data for our shared empirical basis. We will generate procedural policies, provide empirical and corpus-linguistic tools and devices, supervise empirical collaboration across individual projects, provide continuous methodological evaluation, and consolidate all data input to a shared corpus.
