Description

As part of the research unit normal#verrückt, tThe project employs the keyword "anti-psychiatry" as a heuristic tool to examine various initiatives and movements critical of psychiatry. It examines how, in critique of established epistemological orders, treatment routines and/or classification practices of psychiatry, other - new - forms of dealing with insanity are represented and/or practiced. The aim is to capture current practices and discourses of the manifold forms of psychiatric critique beyond a dichotomous juxtaposition of critique and institution and to put them in relation to physical and imaginative urban spaces. Methodologically, the project relies on ethnographic work, thus on a bundle of methods of qualitative social research, as well as on genealogical procedures in order to show continuities, breaks and shifts in the field of psychiatry-critical interventions.
