Description
The project analyses selected projects and initiatives which aim to establish agrarian value chains with enhanced sustainability characteristics. Such sustainability-based value chains are widely discussed as an approach to simultaneously increase the sustainability of agricultural production and the income opportunities of farmers by increasing the willingness to pay among consumers. Based on the case studies, the project aims to understand the forms and mechanisms of trust-building in these value chains, and which organisational, administrative and monitoring structures support trust-building and transparency and thereby the success of sustainability-based value chains. Furthermore, the project aims to identify potential needs for public and policy support. The analysis of ongoing projects and initiatives also serves to derive recommendations for policy and practice how to support sustainability-based value chains which could support the aims of the EU’s “Green Deal”.
