Visegrad Program at the Humboldt University Berlin
Facts
Description
The two-year MA Visegrad Program is a new study program offered by the Institute for Slavic Studies at Humboldt-University of Berlin. The Program will be integrated into the curriculum of the regular Master Program Central and East European Cultures (Kulturen Mittel- und Osteuropas) for at least three years. It consists of multidisciplinary introductory courses, language training, as well as courses in literature, art, history, film, theory and media. The central aim of the Program is to provide advanced knowledge and develop skills necessary for the professional occupation with the complexity of the Visegrad area. The Institute of Slavic Studies has at its disposal all the premises and facilities needed for the Visegrad Program’s introduction, insofar as courses in Polish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian Studies are the major areas of specialization within the regular Master Program in Central and East European Studies. The new program shifts the focus on the Visegrad area: the intention is to explore the mutual relationship between the local cultural identities and the area-based approaches at different levels and with different objectives (language, cultural development at the cross point of nationality, Slavic ideology, areal loyalty and interests, European values), as well as to introduce research methodologies appropriate for the study of contemporary cultural matters in the Visegrad area. The Visegrad Program intends to involve teaching staff from the Institute for Slavic Studies at Humboldt-University of Berlin, as well as guest lecturers, who come from all Visegrad countries to offer compact courses with strong Visegrad orientation.
