Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften 2025 at Humboldt-Universit?t

Open Humboldt
25 years of Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften. The HU is represented in the anniversary year with almost 200 different science projects: from robot football and viticulture in Brandenburg to oceans in a glass of water.

Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin (HU) is once again inviting visitors to the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften on 28 June 2025 at various locations in Berlin: almost 200 events await visitors to the HU on the Campus in Berlin-Mitte, Dahlem, Campus Adlershof, the Sp?th Arboretum and the Mori Ogai Memorial. From 5 p.m. to midnight, scientists will provide insights into their work and research - with experiments, lectures, guided tours, children's unis, games, exhibitions, hands-on activities and cinema screenings.

A varied programme awaits visitors in the main building of the HU, Unter den Linden 6, Berlin-Mitte. This includes mini-language courses from Icelandic to Dari and children's university programmes. Researchers will also provide insights into antiquity and archaeology, and there will be lectures and hands-on experiments on artificial intelligence (AI) and large-scale language models.

The Sp?th Arboretum, Humboldt-Universit?t's 140-year-old collection of trees and shrubs, invites visitors to take part in various guided tours, lectures and hands-on activities. Anyone wishing to support the arboretum can contribute to the preservation of this green treasure in Berlin by adopting a plant.

For the first time, the Heilig-Geist-Kapelle will open its doors for the Long Night. Visitors are invited to lectures, guided tours and, from 22:15, a medieval concert in the late-night programme. The H?rsaalkino Adlershof is also taking part for the first time and will be showing a late-night sci-fi film for romantics in the Lise-Meitner-Haus, Newton-Stra?e 15, Berlin-Aderlshof.

Tickets are not only available online, but also at the box office in the courtyard of honour of the HU main building, Unter den Linden 6, Berlin-Mitte, on the evening of 28 June 2025. This year, to mark the anniversary, they cost just 5 euros.

Climate-stable wine varieties for viticulture in Brandenburg
7 p.m. Lecture

How can viticulture in Brandenburg be successful in the long term and at the same time meet the challenges of climate change? To achieve this, modern fungus-resistant grape varieties (PIWI vines) are being analysed for their drought and frost tolerance and historical grape varieties for their resistance to fungal diseases.

RoboCup - Intelligent football-playing robots
6 to 6.45 p.m., 8 to 8.45 p.m., 10 to 10.45 p.m.

Living beings are able to interact with their environment and other players and find their way around even in confusing and dynamic situations, such as playing football. This requires a special form of intelligence: embodied intelligence. Scientists and students will once again be presenting their humanoid robots, which compete against each other independently. An accompanying lecture provides insights into their AI and shows what we can learn from the robots about embodied intelligence.

Viewpoint KOSMOS - Perspectives on Alexander von Humboldt's work and the Anthropocene
5.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Alexander von Humboldt combined many scientific disciplines in his Cosmos Lectures of 1827/1828. The KOSMOS lectures at Humboldt-Universit?t have been following this trail since 2019. Some of the lectures will be published in book form in summer 2025. The climate geographer and editor Christoph Schneider and the literary scholar and author of one of the contributions, Oliver Lubrich, will discuss with students and the audience the question of what significance Alexander von Humboldt has for today's discourse, especially on questions of sustainability and the public engagement of science.
