Prof. Dr. Steffen Mau has been awarded the 2021 Leibniz-Preis by the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation). This was announced by the DFG on 10 December. In doing so, it is honouring "his innovative sociological analyses of the diverse social transformations that characterise our present day".
"I am absolutely thrilled and delighted about this prestigious honour, which will enable me to get to the bottom of social science issues even more intensively," says Steffen Mau.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst, President of Humboldt-Universit?t (HU): "Steffen Mau is an outstanding social scientist and he deserves to be honoured with this award. His research is brilliant and his books reveal dynamics that we all know from everyday life, but which we understand better through his research."
With his highly acclaimed books "Das metrische Wir" (2017) and "Lütten Klein" (2019), he set important thematic highlights in current debates.
Steffen Mau has been Professor of Macrosociology at the HU since 2015. He previously studied politics and social sciences at the Free University of Berlin, completed his doctorate at the European University Institute in Florence and was a professor at the University of Bremen. Visiting professorships have taken him to France and the USA.
The Leibniz-Preis 2021 will be awarded to a total of ten researchers on 15 March. They will each receive 2.5 million euros in prize money.
