The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) and Berlin Research 50 (BR50) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18 August 2025 - a strong signal for the future of Berlin as a location for science and innovation.

With this agreement, the Excellence Alliance of Berlin universities and the non-university research institutions are pooling their strengths and formalising their close cooperation to date. The MoU creates expanded structures for the joint use of resources, expertise and infrastructure. The aim is to secure and further expand Berlin's scientific excellence and make it even more visible internationally.

The cooperation follows a joint research agenda and five profile lines that form a strategic partnership for the long-term development of the Berlin research area. The aim is to facilitate innovative projects, new career paths and stronger international networking. Representatives from both sides emphasise that the alliance not only strengthens science, but also builds bridges to politics, business and society in order to create an open and sustainable area of knowledge and innovation.
