The institute is closely linked to the Department of Psychology at the HU and Wolfgang Scholl. The now retired HU professor initiated the institute in 1995 in order to promote the exchange between science and society in the field of work and organisational psychology. At that time, third missions and the transfer of knowledge to society were not yet widespread topics. "Right from the start, our aim was to transfer research-based knowledge to business, administration, society and politics and to empirically answer current questions at the university," says Thomas Bachmann, co-founder of artop and former HU student and employee.
Support for individuals, teams and organisations
What is the core topic of artop? In a nutshell: The affiliated institute provides people with scientifically sound support in coping with complex change processes in working life - as individuals, teams and organisations. The focus is on counselling, training and research. The institute is staffed by experienced coaches, psychologists and counsellors who provide coaching for appointments, mediation procedures for conflicts and team development processes for work and project groups - in German and, since 2021, also in English. Artop also supports the HU in internal projects for personnel, team and organisational development. Recently, these have included the UB2035 University Library strategy project, support for the Teaching Mission Statement project and increased cooperation with the Seminar for Rural Development (SLE).
Master's degree programme in cooperation with the HU
In the area of training, the affiliated institute offers a comprehensive training and further education catalogue in its academy. The spectrum ranges from introductory seminars and training courses lasting several months to customised in-house offers. In cooperation with Humboldt-Universit?t, artop offers a Master's degree programme in Counselling and Counselling Sciences. The third pillar of the affiliated institute is applied research. Since 1995, this has resulted in over 350 publications. In addition, there are a large number of applications for third-party funding with professors from the HU, in which artop was involved as a consortium partner or established contact with necessary practice partners. One example of this is the joint project "KoRegio100" in collaboration with the SLE, which is being funded for four years with 3.5 million euros.
Charitable commitment
artop is also involved in voluntary work, supports the HU's Deutschlandstipendium scholarship and supports Humboldt-Universit?t students through internships, student assistant positions, discounted participation in training programmes and a variety of projects for final theses. artop has completed 20 doctorates in this way since it was founded. The affiliated institute also organises in-house exhibitions and offers pro bono consulting for selected charitable organisations.
Use of AI
Artop's 30th anniversary not only marks a long tradition, but also the start of a new phase. "The topic of artificial intelligence will play an important role in counselling and training in the future," says Bachmann, giving an outlook. The affiliated institute has already taken a first step in this direction and offers interested individuals the opportunity to access AI-based systemic content with its own artop ChatBot.
In the coming years, the successful collaboration between the HU - artop has to submit an application for renewal every five years and has completed a successful evaluation in 2024 - will be continued and intensified. This applies first and foremost to the already established formats in continuing education, research and organisational development.
