Since 2003, Humboldt-Universit?t and Stellenbosch University have been linked not only by a popular student exchange programme, but also by various collaborations at the institute, faculty and administrative level. For example, the Professional School of Education (PSE), the Faculty of Theology and the Department of Asian and African Studies at HU work together with their counterparts at SU in various areas. The Faculties of Law at both universities also exchange academics and doctoral students. The partnership also includes reciprocal visits and work shadowing by non-academic staff.
A follow-up agreement has now been signed on 18 June 2025 in Berlin at a meeting between the Presidential Representative for International and European Affairs at HU, Yoan Vilain, and the Head of the International Office at SU, Robert Kotze. This creates the contractual basis for the continuation of the various activities for the next five years.
Founded in 1918, Stellenbosch University is one of the most prestigious universities in Africa. It is focussed on research and has excellent national and international networks. SU is also a founding member of the African Research Universities Association (ARUA), which pools the scientific expertise of 16 universities in its own Centres of Excellence, among other things.
