On 31 July 2025, Prof. Dr Liliana Ruth Feierstein resigned from her position as Anti-Semitism Commissioner of the Presidium of Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin (HU) and handed over to Niels Helle-Meyer, Vice President for Finance, Human Resources and Operations at HU. Feierstein is Professor of Transcultural History of Judaism at the HU and the Selma Stern Centre for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg and will be abroad for an extended research stay. In April 2024, she was appointed the first Anti-Semitism Commissioner by the Presidium of the HU. The Anti-Semitism Officer works closely with the HU's new Centre for Equal Opportunities as a central point of contact and advice for Jewish students and HU staff. Niels Helle-Meyer explains his new position as Anti-Semitism Officer: "I am very pleased about the great trust that has been placed in me with this appointment. My goal is to successfully expand the path towards dialogue and projects to prevent anti-Semitism at Humboldt-Universit?t. For Jewish students and Jewish staff, the university should be a place of the greatest possible security."
HU President Julia von Blumenthal thanked Liliana Ruth Feierstein on behalf of the Presidium for her development work and commitment: "Liliana Feierstein has achieved and initiated a great deal in the fight against anti-Semitism at HU over the past year. In difficult and challenging times, she has launched numerous pioneering initiatives with a great deal of personal commitment - from additional teaching events to short lectures and training courses for improved education and prevention to a sound installation for commemoration and mourning spaces. Liliana Feierstein has built trust, sensitised, advised and informed. We are very grateful to her for her work and are delighted that Niels Helle-Meyer, a member of the Presidium itself, will seamlessly take over this important office and build on it."
