Proof of health insurance for enrolment
In order to enrol at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, you must provide proof of your health insurance status (statutory insurance or exemption from the statutory insurance obligation). Electronic student registration procedures
Since 1 January 2022, all universities in Germany have been obliged to participate in the purely electronic student registration procedure (SMV procedure) vis-à-vis the statutory health insurance funds. Notifications from health insurance companies in paper form are therefore no longer accepted.
Receive proof of health insurance
- Statutory health insurance
You are insured with a statutory health insurance company in Germany. Please ask your statutory health insurance provider to send proof of your insurance status electronically to Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, quoting the sender number H0000442. - Private health insurance
You have private health insurance in Germany or statutory health insurance in a country of the European Union, are not subject to compulsory insurance (e.g. because you are over the age of 30) or may be exempt from compulsory statutory health insurance for another reason. Please contact a statutory health insurance company in Germany of your choice and ask them to send your insurance status to Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin electronically, quoting the sender number H0000442.
Change of insurance status
If you change your health insurance provider during your studies at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, your new statutory health insurance provider must send an electronic notification to HU. Please provide your health insurance company with the sender number H0000442 .
Information for international students
International students are also required to have health insurance in Germany. Please contact a statutory health insurance company of your choice as soon as possible and either get insured or exempted so that Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin can electronically confirm your insurance status for your enrolment.
Reporting procedure
What reportable information do universities and health insurance funds exchange with each other?
According to § 199a SGB V, the following reporting obligations exist for health insurance funds and universities:
Notifications from the health insurance funds to HU Berlin:
- M10: Insurance status of students for enrolment
- M11: Start of insurance in the event of a change of health insurance company
- M12: Delay in payment of health insurance contributions (prevents re-registration at HU)
- M13: Settlement of overdue contributions by students (enables re-registration at HU after M12 notification)
Notifications from HU Berlin to the statutory health insurance funds:
- M20: Start of studies at HU Berlin
- M30: End of studies at HU Berlin
