Neurobiologist Susanne Schreiber will be awarded the Caroline von Humboldt-Professur in October. The named professorship is associated with project funding of 80,000 euros. This year's Caroline von Humboldt Award, endowed with 15,000 euros, goes to ethnologist Kristina Jonutyt?.
The public award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 26 October 2023, 6 pm in the Festsaal in Luisenstr. 56 of Humboldt-Universit?t and will be opened by Prof. Dr Julia von Blumenthal. Dr Ina Czyborra, Berlin's Senator for Science, Health and Nursing, will give a speech to mark the tenth anniversary, and Prof. Dr Susanne Baer, who was awarded the first Caroline von Humboldt Professorship in 2013, will also speak.

About the people
Susanne Schreiber is a professor at the Department of Biology and Einstein Professor of Computational Neurophysiology and also Deputy Chair of the German Ethics Council. In her research, she applies mathematical and computational methods to biological questions and contributes to innovative results in brain research. She is honoured as an outstanding scientist in a very innovative field of research and as a role model in the STEM subjects.
Kristina Jonutyt? works as a lecturer at Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. Jonutyt?'s doctoral thesis on socio-economic aspects of urban Buddhism has won several awards. Her HU project, which she will realise as a prizewinner with Manja Stephan-Emmrich, Professor at the Department of Asian and African Studies, is entitled "Buryat belonging" and deals with the Buryat minority in Russia and its role in the current war in Ukraine.
About the award winners
The Caroline von Humboldt Professorship will be awarded for the tenth time in 2023. The aim of the full professorship is to make outstanding female professors at Humboldt-Universit?t even more visible and to support their work. The Caroline von Humboldt Professorship is awarded to excellent female professors from all disciplines at HU who are characterised by their international reputation, the relevance of their research results beyond their own discipline and their outstanding publication activity. Previous award winners have been Susanne Baer, Claudia Draxl, Gabriele Metzler, Edda Klipp, Iris D?rmann, Ilse Helbrecht, Janina Kneipp, Ethel Matala de Mazza and Anna-Bettina Kaiser.
The Caroline von Humboldt-Preis is presented annually to an outstanding postdoctoral researcher from Germany or abroad. First announced in 2010, it is one of the most highly endowed awards of its kind in Germany. The prize money is intended to enable the award winner to carry out a research project as part of a research stay at Humboldt-Universit?t.
