The agreement was signed on 16 December by HU President Julia von Blumenthal and Linda G. Mills, President of New York University (NYU) in New York. It paves the way for a new phase of cooperation that has grown over three decades since the first partnership agreement in 1995.
"It was a very intensive and productive exchange in New York," says von Blumenthal. "Strong international partnerships make us universities more resilient to the great challenges of our time; I look forward to the projects we will realise in the coming years."

With the signing of the new agreement, cooperation between Berlin and New York will be further intensified and joint initiatives in all areas of the university - from study and teaching, research, innovation and transfer to exchange at administrative level - will be promoted.
With more than 60,000 students, New York University is the largest private university in the USA and is ranked 33rd among the world's best universities by Times Higher Education. As an international university, NYU also has several branches abroad. A campus in Berlin facilitates direct local contact for HU and NYU members.
