Humboldt-Universit?t's "Teaching Week" takes place annually in the week surrounding Teaching Day. During the week's events, teachers, students and staff at Humboldt-Universit?t present their approaches and programmes on the current theme of the Award for Good Teaching. Together we will explore the question of what contribution the institutions and members of the HU make to the cross-cutting themes of the teaching mission statement. All members of Humboldt-Universit?t as well as interested guests are cordially invited to take part in the theme week.
Themed week on sustainable teaching and learning
The theme week under the motto "Sustainable teaching and learning" began with the Teaching Day on 3 June 2025 and ended with the Circle U. Climate Day on 5 June 2025, which was dedicated to the question of how sustainability aspects can be taken into account in all areas of teaching and studying - by teachers and students, in the faculties and institutes, in central and decentralised administration.
What do we mean by sustainable teaching and learning?
For us, sustainable teaching and learning encompasses both teaching and learning content as well as the organisation of teaching, both at a structural level and at the level of the individual course.
The aim of sustainable teaching is to organise and implement teaching in a responsible manner that conserves emissions and resources. In this context, the tasks, activities and developments of lecturers, students and teaching support organisations play a decisive role.
As part of the Teaching Week, we focussed on the HU as a place of learning. This year, we highlighted related measures for the climate- and environmentally-friendly use of teaching/learning infrastructures and materials as well as the networking and exchange of teaching/learning resources within and outside our own institution. In this way, we wanted to emphasise the interaction between nature, society and culture in an impressive way as a challenge for teaching at the HU.
The theme week started on 3 June 2025, when the prize for good sustainable teaching was also awarded, and ended on 5 June 2025 with the Circle U. Climate Day, which was held simultaneously at all nine universities in the Circle U. Alliance were held at the same time.
Hybrid teaching and learning theme week
Humboldt-Universit?t's first Teaching Week took place from 24 to 28 June 2024. The focus was on hybrid teaching and learning. We discussed the topic of "hybrid teaching" together under the key question "What contribution can hybrid teaching make to improving our teaching?" and tried to make the topic of hybrid teaching accessible to teaching staff, students and employees using a variety of different formats.
Best-practice impulses - hybrid public lecture series, collaborative work in international seminars, examination culture, digital self-assessment tools for students and much more.
Workshops on skills development - e.g. how can H5P be used to design attractive teaching and learning programmes with interactive videos, quiz formats and small games in Moodle for blended learning? Or teaching workshop for collaborative text work in hybrid teaching-learning settings.
Discussion formats - "Humboldt discusses" with a focus on the potential of hybrid teaching in terms of inclusion, flexibilisation and internationalisation, Journal Club Hybrid Teaching and discussion with students about hybrid teaching in the context of studyability, accessibility and family-friendly universities.
Together, these events form a best-practice pool for hybrid teaching at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin.
